Is Dhrishyam a copy of Devotion of Suspect X

Is Dhrishyam a copy of Devotion of Suspect X. Well "yes" and "no". I will give an example just to demonstrate what I am saying. Can we say Kahaani is a plagiarism of " The Usual Suspects" and " Taking Lives". You can't completely ignore the plot device that Kevin Spacey made up the story in the police station as he was indeed the devil who existed or Angelina Jolie led Ethan Hawke to her for the final kill over a latex belly feigning pregnancy and connect with Vidya Balan making up her story as she went through the bylanes of Kolkata or just dusting her room and then finishing it up with the amazing climax. But can we term Kahaani as a copy or a clever copy. I would say the latter.
Dhrishyam belongs to the latter also. The basic plot premise is the same along with the catch over the alibi. I can safely say if Ekta Kapoor makes a movie on Suspect X, it will fall flat because the plot device has been used already in Dhrishyam. Its not a xerox but the director was definitely inspired immensely by Suspect X. Its very simple. If Devotion of Suspect X was not written then we wouldn't have had a Dhrishyam. It just hurts a little to see that probably one of the greatest Indian thrillers with one of the tightest plots is derived from a Japanese detective novel. But still very entertaining, enjoyable and engaging - Both the movies deserve kudos. Suspect X is the original so it deserves more marks but Dhrishyam is a brilliant ingenious copy. To copy a movie is also an art and Dhrisyam is one such fine example. Originality is the art of concealing your source and Dhrisyam does that with panache and style.

Do watch Drishyam, if you haven't already. Its smashing scintillating suspenseful shenanigans. Suspect X, albeit my cup of jasmine tea wouldn't go down well with everyone. Its a lil morbid and tragic. Dhrishyam on the other hand is entertainment with spunk and fun.
