Phantom 2015 review - Phantom is not that bad!!!!

So the verdict is out.

Phantom is the Ghost who stumbles!!!

Everyone is unanimous in their opinion that this movies sucks!!!!!

I won't go into the details of the shortcoming. Everyone knows them by now. Some have watched the movie and panned it. Some have read the reviews and are avoiding it. And some just don't care. After watching the movie I have to agree and accept that the flaws, pointed out by the critics are right on target. So I don't have much to add there. You can read all the other reviews and understand.

Even I didn't like the movie much. A guy brought up on COD gaming, liberal doses of 24 and Strike Back, watched Munich 5 times would find this movie a "Baby" compared to those sources of entertainment, not to mention the intended pun -It doesn't help when you realize "BABY" was a much better movie than Phantom any day.

The list of mistakes and pretentious Jingoistic influences weigh this movie down so much that it can barely swim, but.......if you can somehow overlook those parts it somehow floats and is not that bad!!!!

1) For starters its got a good plot for a Bollywood movie. The assassinations are quite well planned, though inconsistent. Some are really well planned, while the others seem quite juvenile. But some of them are quite novel.

2) Saif seems quite at ease in gunning people down. He may be low and disinterested on the emoting quotient, but he pulls his weight on the action sequences and is quite convincing.

3)  Zeeshan Ayub is fabulous as rookie RAW agent. There is one scene at the end where he tells the navy personnel to enter Pakistani waters to save Saif and Katrina. That's the highlight of the movie. Sometimes you feel why we didn't have more moments like these in the movie.

4) The locales all over the world are beautifully photographed  and cinematography is breathtaking.

5) The action scenes are technically brilliant.

6) Some of the spy-craft tactics, Doing recce, shadowing etc are shown well.

The problem with this movie is firstly Katrina Kaif - She goes about the whole movie like an over-excited schoolgirl. Why do they take her? Its high time Bollywood realized she just doesn't have any talent. Apart from doing the item numbers she is no good.

Secondly Kabir Khan's direction. Either you make a full blown Bollywood masala movie or a realistic hard gritty movie. Don't try to marry them both. It eventually results in a very messy divorce. And that's where Phantom has gone wrong. Its not a total Bollywood movie neither a tightly plotted Frederick Forsyth story. Its neither here, nor there......that's where it stumbles and falls!!!!

OTHERWISE its not that bad ... maybe one watch can qualify as a Okish time pass.

So watch it and decide for yourself.
